$250M China-Pakistan Deal to Boost Medical Equipment Sector

Strategic Partnership Formed Through Multiple MoUs

Pakistan and China have established a significant partnership in the medical equipment and surgical instrument sector, signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) valued at $250 million. The agreements were finalized during a B2B matchmaking conference in Beijing, where the Silk Road Assistance Industrial Internet Platform formed partnerships with Pakistani dental manufacturer Sawuat and Chinese pharmaceutical company UPH Biopharma.

Pakistan’s Manufacturing Advantages

Pakistan’s position as the world’s fifth-largest medical manufacturing hub, centered in Sialkot, demonstrates its strong foundation in this sector. The country currently exports more than 80% of its domestic production, leveraging its competitive advantages of low production costs and strategic geographic location connecting to Central Asia and the Middle East.

Mr. Sunny Yang, Chief Technology Officer of the Silk Road platform, emphasized these advantages, stating, “Pakistan’s vast market, tax incentives, and European-standard compliance give it a competitive edge in attracting international investment.”

While Pakistan shows strength in equipment and instrument manufacturing, the collaboration aims to address areas requiring development. Yang noted that “Its medical industry can be further advanced in collaboration with China… while it excels in equipment and instruments, there is significant room for improvement in areas like image documentation.”

Market Access and Regulatory Guidance

The partnership acknowledges the importance of regulatory compliance and market access. Mr. Zhou Hui, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products, highlighted Pakistan’s resources, stating, “Pakistan boasts abundant raw material resources and a large labor force.” He emphasized the Chamber’s commitment to supporting Pakistani companies entering the Chinese market through consulting services.

The collaboration extends beyond immediate trade relations. Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, President of the China Pakistan Medical Association, announced plans for expanded infrastructure, saying, “We are working to build a China-Pakistan friendship hospital in Islamabad and planning a joint medical technology park in Pakistan.”

Conference Impact and Future Roadmap

The conference, hosted by the Pakistani Embassy in China, attracted over 120 companies from both nations. It concluded the first series of seven B2B events following the Pakistani Prime Minister’s China visit in June. Officials have announced plans for seven additional roadshows focusing on 14 priority sectors to further strengthen bilateral business relationships.
