Dental Injury Prompts Nationwide Recall of Frozen Taquitos

Consumer Reports Dental Damage from Metal Contamination

A concerning dental injury has been reported in connection with Aldi’s frozen chicken and cheese taquitos, according to recent coverage by The Independent. The incident has triggered a substantial recall affecting nearly 25,000 pounds of the product, manufactured by Bestway Sandwiches Inc.

Recall Details and Scope

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the recall on January 11, 2025, following reports of metal contamination in the frozen food items. The affected products, marketed under the “CASA MAMITA CHICKEN & CHEESE TAQUITOS” brand, were produced in July and September 2024, bearing Best by Dates of July 3, 2025, and September 25, 2025.

Distribution and Response

According to The Independent’s reporting, an Aldi representative confirmed that the recalled products were distributed across 30 states and Washington DC. “This recall is due to potential foreign object contamination,” the retailer stated, adding that “Upon notification from the supplier, ALDI immediately removed the affected product from stores.”

Safety Concerns and Consumer Guidance

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has expressed concern that consumers may still have these products in their freezers. The contamination came to light after two significant consumer reports: one involving the discovery of metal in the product, and another reporting a dental injury associated with consumption.

Regulatory Oversight

The FSIS is implementing its standard recall procedures, which include effectiveness checks to ensure proper customer notification and product removal from the market. The recalled items can be identified by the establishment number “EST. P-40327” printed on the packaging.

This dental safety incident represents part of a broader series of recent food safety recalls across major retailers, highlighting the importance of rigorous quality control in processed food manufacturing and distribution.
