Dentsply Sirona and Smile Train Partner to Improve Asia’s Cleft Care

In a concerted effort to enhance cleft care in underserved Asian communities, Dentsply Sirona, the world’s largest manufacturer of professional dental products and technologies, and Smile Train, the world’s largest cleft-focused organization, are intensifying their joint endeavors.

The collaboration aims to bolster access to and the quality of cleft care through strategic initiatives such as equipment donations and the distribution of oral health kits to patients.

Advancements in Cleft Care Equipment

Dentsply Sirona’s recent donation of state-of-the-art dental equipment to Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation Philippines, Inc. (NCFPI) in Manila marks a significant milestone in this endeavor.

The donation includes advanced intraoral scanners, an extraoral x-ray imaging system, and a 3D printer. Vanessa P. Enriquez, Executive Director at NCFPI, expressed gratitude for the donation, highlighting its potential to advance cleft care and improve outcomes for Filipino children with clefts. She stated, “The gift marks a significant stride in advancing cleft care for children in need across the country and enables us to provide even better outcomes and brighter futures to young Filipinos with clefts.”

Personalized Oral Health Kits

In addition to equipment donations, Dentsply Sirona will distribute 300 oral health kits to Smile Train partners’ centers across the Philippines and India.

These kits, assembled by the Dentsply Sirona APAC Leadership team, comprise sustainable products including toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, and timers. Notably, employees also wrote personalized get-well messages to accompany the kits, enhancing the personal touch of the initiative.

Bruce Peatey, Group Vice President APAC RCO at Dentsply Sirona, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating, “Creating healthy smiles is a cornerstone of our sustainability strategy ‘BEYOND: Taking action for a brighter world.’ Helping children around the world gain access to cleft treatment is one of the most rewarding ways of doing this.”

A Shared Vision for Change

Both organizations expressed enthusiasm for their continued partnership and shared commitment to improving cleft care globally.

Mamta Carrol, Senior Vice President and Regional Director, Asia for Smile Train, highlighted the mutual dedication to advancing the cleft community’s well-being. She remarked, “Our joint work is beneficial to the cleft community and individuals born with facial differences. It also makes the work of the healthcare professionals who treat cleft-affected individuals easier. We are looking forward to many more achievements in the future.”
