Happy World Oral Health Day!

March 20 marks the annual World Oral Health Day, where individuals, communities, and health organizations worldwide unite to reduce the burden of oral diseases.

The event aims to empower people with knowledge, tools, and confidence to secure good oral health, a crucial aspect of overall health and well-being.

Oral diseases impact individuals, health systems, and economies worldwide, causing pain and discomfort, social isolation, and loss of self-confidence. Most oral health conditions are largely preventable and can be treated in their early stages.

Take Personal Action for your Oral Health

The event emphasizes the importance of taking personal action to achieve better oral health, particularly among seniors, children, and healthy adults.

World Oral Health Day targets individuals, schools, and youth groups to promote learning activities about oral health, oral health professionals, and the wider healthcare community to educate the populations they serve. It also calls on governments and policymakers to champion better oral health for all.

FDI World Dental Federation recognises World Oral Health Day

The FDI World Dental Federation organizes World Oral Health Day, an initiative that aims to achieve optimal oral health for everyone worldwide. The organization encourages individual action worldwide to roll out World Oral Health Day in each country and create a truly global movement.

The World Oral Health Day event inspires everyone to take action, however big or small, to contribute to improving the oral health of populations globally. By using local expertise to create awareness and roll out World Oral Health Day in the community, we can all be a part of promoting good oral health worldwide.

Did you Know?

World Oral Health Day was first declared in 2007 and was originally celebrated on September 12, the birthdate of FDI founder Dr Charles Godon. However, the campaign was not fully activated until 2013, after the date was changed to March 20 to avoid conflict with the FDI World Dental Congress taking place in September.

The new date was chosen to reflect the number 3/20, where seniors must have 20 natural teeth, children should possess 20 baby teeth, and healthy adults must have a total of 32 teeth and no dental cavities.
