IVac Irrigation And Activation System

The iVac System from PacDent is an apical negative pressure irrigation and activation system designed to be used during the root canal treatment irrigation phase. The system works best when connected to a piezo ultrasonic handpiece.

Key concepts of root canal irrigation and disinfection

The three key ideas established by endodontic science and research for root canal irrigation and disinfection were used to develop the iVac System.

The first idea used is ultrasonic vibration, which creates a chemical catalyst for the irrigating solutions along with temporary cavitation and microstreaming effects, resulting in a chemical-mechanical cleaning action in the difficult-to-access areas of the root canal.

The second idea is the concept of negative pressure, which allows irrigation fluid to move from the pulp chamber to the apical limit without extending past the foramen.

Concomitant irrigation is a principle that continuously replenishes the volume of irrigation liquid. Optimal chemical activity is induced by constant fluid replacement, which repositions the solution to make room for a fresh one.

Prevent liquid extrusion into periapical tissue

The iVac system combined the three irrigation fundaments into a single device to safely prevent liquid extrusion into the periapical tissue while also reactivating the canal’s fresh fluid supply. The system includes a.35mm or.50mm aspiration/activation cannula with two options of outside diameters.

The piezo ultrasonic handpiece’s vibration is transmitted through the iVac ultrasonic connection, which is made to grip the cannula firmly and distribute the irrigating liquid effectively. Additionally, the system can be combined with a standard vacuum outlet to add negative pressure thanks to tubes and connectors.

Main advantages

Here are the key advantages of the iVac System:

  • Helpful in situations where irrigation depth control is crucial3, such as with developing teeth, apexification, regeneration, and apical foramen resorptions.
  • The iVac combines concurrent irrigation and apical negative pressure to reduce the danger of irrigant extrusion while simultaneously cleaning and sterilising the whole root canal to its working length1, 2.
  • Throughout the operation, the iVac design enables the continual exchange of ultrasonically activated irrigants with continuous refreshing into the root canal system.
  • The action of continuous ultrasonic irrigation can efficiently clean and disinfect abnormalities in the root canal system,4, 5, 6.
  • Even in curved canals, the polymer microcannula enables efficient ultrasonic activation7 of the irrigant.• The iVac system is simple to install and has an intuitive operation, requiring no significant equipment investment.
  • In addition to the ultrasonic vibration, the cannula’s external and internal diameters rate significantly reduces the risk of clogging.
  • The cannula’s external and internal diameters considerably lower the likelihood of clogging in addition to the ultrasonic vibration.
