Jordanian PM Discusses Health Sector Strategies with Medical Leaders

JORDAN: Prime Minister Jafar Hassan met with leaders of Jordan’s health professional associations on Sunday at the Prime Ministry, emphasizing the government’s commitment to working collaboratively with these associations to achieve key national goals. According to a report by The Jordan Times, the discussions are part of a broader effort to engage various sectors in the development of Jordan’s economic and social frameworks.

During the meeting, Hassan praised the crucial role health professionals have played throughout the country’s history, noting that their expertise is integral to shaping future governmental programs. He emphasized the importance of dialogue with these associations, underlining that “the government works according to a clear plan to achieve the objectives of the Economic Modernisation Vision.”

Economic Vision and the Role of the Private Sector

The prime minister highlighted the significance of the Economic Modernisation Vision in strengthening Jordan’s economic resilience and improving its healthcare sector. As part of this vision, Hassan reaffirmed the role of the private sector and health associations, which he sees as key drivers of growth. He stressed that their input would be invaluable in refining government plans, saying that their involvement is essential to creating a “dynamic and innovative” economy.

The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported that Hassan encouraged greater integration of these professionals’ insights into national strategies, particularly in areas of mutual concern. These include promoting medical tourism, enhancing the pharmaceutical industry, and increasing employment opportunities for health sector graduates.

Addressing Key Sector Concerns

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to hearing the concerns of health association leaders, including pressing issues such as the need to update regulations governing the medical sector. The prime minister assured attendees that their concerns would be thoroughly reviewed, and he pledged to hold further meetings in the coming weeks. “The government will conduct detailed meetings with experts and stakeholders from both the government and the associations to identify common ground on these matters,” Hassan said.

This level of engagement, Hassan assured, is intended to ensure that both public and private sector voices are heard and that their feedback will directly influence policy updates and strategic directions.

Representatives of Medical and Health Associations Present

The meeting included the participation of several high-ranking health sector figures. Notable attendees included Minister of Health Firas Hawari, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdulmoneim Owdat, and the heads of Jordan’s leading health associations. These included Ziad Zoubi, President of the Jordan Medical Association; Azem Qadoumi, President of the Jordan Dental Association; Mohammad Ababneh, President of the Jordan Pharmacists Association; and Khaled Rababah, President of the Jordanian Nurses Association.

Each of these leaders represents a crucial branch of Jordan’s healthcare system, and their involvement signals the importance of multi-faceted dialogue between the government and professional bodies. Hassan’s commitment to ongoing collaboration reflects a national strategy to elevate Jordan’s standing in the global medical arena while addressing internal workforce challenges.

Future Steps and Policy Reforms

The prime minister concluded the meeting with a promise to take action on the issues discussed, with plans to review sector-specific proposals in the coming weeks. Among the topics under consideration are strategies to boost Jordan’s medical tourism, support for the local pharmaceutical industry, and creating job opportunities for recent medical graduates.

In his closing remarks, Hassan reiterated the government’s focus on modernizing the sector to meet international standards. “We are committed to working together with you to ensure that Jordan remains a leader in healthcare and medical innovation,” he said.

The collaborative approach outlined during the meeting signals a renewed focus on aligning Jordan’s healthcare policies with its broader economic goals, ensuring that the health sector continues to thrive as part of the nation’s modernisation efforts.
