Myanmar Dental Health Conference 2023 Kicks Off in Nay Pyi Taw

MYANMAR: The city of Nay Pyi Taw witnessed the inauguration of the Myanmar Dental Health Conference (MDHSC) for the year 2023. The opening ceremony was graced by notable figures in Myanmar’s healthcare sector, emphasising the conference’s pivotal role in fostering camaraderie among dental healthcare providers and promoting dental health subjects.

Key Messages from Distinguished Speakers

During the event, State Administration Council Member Dr. Ba Shwe underscored the conference’s significance, highlighting its objectives to facilitate knowledge exchange in international standards, encourage continuous learning opportunities, and facilitate the transfer of expertise from retired dental specialists to the newer generations. 

Dr. Ba Shwe emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the dentists of Tatmadaw and the Ministry of Health, promoting unity and cooperation within the dental healthcare landscape.

Speaking on behalf of the State Administration Council Chairman, Prime Minister, Dr. Ba Shwe emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to prioritising the health and well-being of the populace. Dr. Ba Shwe reiterated the government’s dedication to providing necessary resources for the overall health of the people and emphasized the importance of extending dental healthcare services to regions with ethnic populations.

Following Dr. Ba Shwe, Union Minister for Health, Dr. Thet Khaing Win, highlighted the necessity of recruiting human resources for dental healthcare services across different age groups. Dr. Thet Khaing Win emphasised the significance of raising awareness through health campaigns and dental services in schools, ensuring the holistic development of the education system and healthcare services, particularly in remote regions.

Pre-Conference Activities and Collaborative Agreements

Prior to the conference, several pre-conference activities were conducted, including cleft lip and palate surgeries, as well as free dental implants for senior citizens, demonstrating the commitment of the healthcare community to addressing critical dental healthcare needs.

Notably, the Medical Services Department of the Ministry of Health is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korean University of Medicine, while the University of Dental Medicine (Yangon) and the University of Dental Medicine (Mandalay) will establish collaborative agreements with the Khon Kaen University of Thailand, fostering international partnerships for the advancement of dental healthcare in Myanmar.

MDHSC (2023): Fostering Quality Dental Care for the Community

Under the theme “Quality Dental Care for Community,” the Ministry of Health presided over the MDHSC (2023) on November 3 and 4. The conference promises to host dental specialists from five countries, including Thailand, Japan, Korea, and Malaysia, alongside local experts, delivering comprehensive treatment systems. 

Participants can expect an engaging lineup, including a reading session featuring 32 posters and 30 papers, facilitating the exchange of cutting-edge research and advancements in dental healthcare.

As the conference progresses, Deputy Minister for Health, Prof. Dr. Aye Tun, participated in the opening ceremony of the academic sessions, marking a significant step in the journey to enhance dental healthcare in Myanmar and foster a collaborative environment for further advancements in the field.
