Next-Generation Restorative Material Addresses Key Clinical Challenges
Pulpdent Corporation has announced its first major product release in four years with ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow, a dental restorative material designed to improve bulk-fill procedures. The product aims to support natural tooth remineralization while addressing common clinical limitations of traditional bulk-fill materials.
Enhanced Features for Clinical Practice
The new material incorporates several technical innovations, including a patented stress-reducing monomer called MODULUS™ and ShadeFusion™ technology for universal shade matching. According to Michael Jeffery, Pulpdent’s Director of Product and Strategy, “ACTIVA BioACTIVE Bulk Flow is an exciting step forward, both for dentistry and our company,” noting its potential to establish “a new, higher standard of care for dental patients worldwide.”
Addressing Traditional Limitations
Recent years have seen bulk filling become increasingly common in dental practices, despite challenges with existing materials including photopolymerization issues and shrinkage stress. The new product has been specifically formulated to address these concerns, offering unlimited depth of cure without requiring a capping layer.
Pediatric Applications
Recognizing the unique needs of younger patients, Pulpdent has developed ACTIVA KIDS BioACTIVE Bulk Flow, a specialized version for primary dentition. This variant maintains the same properties as the standard version while offering color options specifically designed for children’s teeth. The formulation is free from BPA, bis-GMA, and BPA derivatives.
Market Availability and Manufacturing
Lew Berk, Pulpdent managing director, contextualizes the release within the company’s broader mission, stating that the product “reflects our longstanding mission—first espoused in 1947 by Pulpdent founder Dr. Harold Berk—to save teeth and help patients live in comfort and smile with confidence.”
The product will be available through Pulpdent’s global distribution network starting January 1, 2025. Manufactured in Watertown, Massachusetts, it will be supplied in 5g syringes with Automix tips. The launch represents Pulpdent’s commitment to advancing dental care while maintaining focus on practical clinical applications.
