Smile Genius: An All-In-One Platform for Affordable Clear Aligners

Ireland: Dublin-based start-up Smile Genius is offering a solution to the long waiting times and high costs associated with orthodontic treatment. The dental software company aims to make clear aligners more accessible to patients by connecting dental clinics, aligner manufacturing labs, and patients on a single platform. This allows more dentists to offer the highly customised product to their patients.

Streamlines the Process for Dentists

According to Nipun Kathuria, co-founder of Smile Genius, patients often face long waiting lists or high charges for orthodontic treatment. He explained, “Most of the time your dentist will refer you to an orthodontist who will put you on months of waiting lists (because there are only a few of them) or charge two to three times more than what a general dentist might charge for such treatments.”

The platform streamlines the process for dentists, reducing admin tasks by up to four hours and providing more time for patient care. Kathuria added, “By offering these new cosmetic services, dentists can earn up to five times more than their current hourly earnings.”

Clinical, Lab and Consumer Components

Smile Genius is built on the AWS cloud and comprises three components: a clinic portal, a lab portal, and a consumer-facing app. The clinic portal enables dentists to manage individual patient cases, while the lab portal provides prescription and order access for any global aligner manufacturing lab. The app allows patients to engage with dentists during treatment, review their plans, and update their progress.

Smile Genius plans to be live with businesses across Ireland, the UK, Israel, Jamaica, and the US this month, with additional plans to “test the appetite of the market” in India. The start-up aims to secure seed investment as it focuses on the UK and US markets.

Smile Genius offers a promising solution to the accessibility and affordability issues that have plagued orthodontic treatment. With the support of its cloud-based platform, the start-up could provide a more efficient and cost-effective approach to dental care.
