SOUTH KOREA: Vatech, a company specialising in the dental imaging field, has officially inaugurated the Yonsei University-Vatech Accurax Imaging Research Center (AI Center) at Yonsei University’s Sinchon Campus in central Seoul.
A Collaborative Research Hub
The AI Center stands as a collaborative research initiative between Vatech and Yonsei University, aiming to spearhead the development of technological components for dental and medical X-ray diagnostic equipment.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Suh Seoung-hwan, president of Yonsei University, and Ro Chang-joon, chairman of Vatech.
State-of-the-Art Research Space
Vatech has contributed significantly to the research environment by establishing a dedicated space at Yonsei University Sinchon Campus. As part of this commitment, the company has donated X-ray CT equipment valued at 500 million won ($387 thousand). This donation is anticipated to facilitate high-level research in the development of cutting-edge medical X-ray equipment.
Operating on an open innovation model, the AI Center welcomes the participation of diverse researchers with specialized expertise. Researchers from Yonsei University’s College of Artificial Intelligence, the College of Dentistry, and the Bioimaging Data Institute will collectively work on advancing various technological elements crucial for dental and medical X-ray diagnostic equipment.
Fostering Innovation and Education
Suh Seoung-hwan, president of Yonsei University, emphasized the broader impact of the AI Center, stating, “The AI Center that Yonsei University and Vatech are creating together will not only serve as a hub for medical imaging quality improvement but also as a platform to nurture the next generation of innovators—physicians, scientists, and AI engineers—who will drive medical AI research.”
Vatech’s collaboration with Yonsei University dates back to 2010 when the two entities joined forces to develop X-ray imaging technology. The establishment of the AI Center marks a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership.
Future Technological Developments
Ro Chang-joon, chairman of Vatech, expressed anticipation for the future, stating, “I look forward to developing and commercialising various new technologies that will lead the dental and medical markets.” The collaboration aims to contribute to advancements in diagnostic technologies and foster an environment that nurtures the next generation of professionals in the field.
