HKU Dentistry Ranks 3rd in QS World University Rankings

HONG KONG: The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has once again showcased its academic prowess by securing the prestigious 3rd place in the QS World University Rankings by Subject for Dentistry in 2024. 

This achievement reaffirms HKU’s standing as a leading institution in the field of Dentistry on a global scale. Notably, HKU Dentistry has consistently maintained a top-three global ranking in eight out of the past ten years, marking a remarkable feat in academic excellence.

Commitment to Excellence

Professor Thomas Flemmig, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, expressed his satisfaction at the remarkable achievement and credited the dedicated faculty members for their contributions. He stated, “Maintaining a top-three position for 8 out of 10 years is a significant accomplishment, which no other dental institution in the world has achieved.” Professor Flemmig highlighted the institution’s commitment to delivering excellence in teaching, conducting innovative research, and providing high-quality oral healthcare.

The Institute for Advanced Dentistry at HKU is playing a crucial role in improving access to high-quality oral healthcare. Through this institute, HKU educates PhD students and specialists in various dental disciplines while offering advanced dental services to patients with severe or complex oral conditions. Professor Flemmig emphasized the significance of the institute’s work in addressing oral health challenges and providing care to underserved populations.

With ongoing developments and opportunities for further growth, Professor Flemmig expressed optimism about the future of HKU Dentistry. In the latest QS World University Rankings by Subject for Dentistry, HKU secured the 3rd position globally, trailing behind the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (1st) and Academic Centre for Dentistry Amsterdam (ACTA), Netherlands (2nd). Notably, HKU surpassed renowned institutions such as King’s College London and Harvard University, showcasing its academic excellence and global impact in the field of Dentistry.
