Kuraray Noritake Dental Unveils New Universal Adhesive

Kuraray Noritake Dental has introduced CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2, a new dental adhesive that promises to streamline bonding procedures while maintaining high-quality results. Launched in May 2024 at the CDA Presents the Art + Science of Dentistry annual session, this single-bottle adhesive system represents the latest evolution in the company’s long-standing commitment to dental bonding excellence.

Addressing Industry Challenges

The dental industry has seen a surge in the use of universal adhesives, with estimates suggesting they are used in over 50% of dental offices in the United States. However, a persistent challenge has been the complexity of application instructions, which can lead to inconsistent results if not followed precisely.

Dr. Troy Schmedding, a practising dentist from Walnut Creek, California, highlights this issue: “I think it comes down to a situation where you’ve got a lot of dentists that probably don’t follow instruction very well when applying, right? I mean, that’s a well-known thing, so maybe they aren’t applying for the necessary time.”

Simplicity at the Forefront

CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 aims to address these concerns by offering a simplified application process. Dr. Schmedding notes, “One of the great things you get with [CLEARFIL] Universal Bond Quick 2 is basically the simplicity.”

The new adhesive boasts a quick application time and a thin, easily spreadable consistency. This combination allows for efficient use in both direct and indirect restorative procedures, potentially reducing chair time and improving overall treatment efficiency.

Advanced Formulation

At the heart of this new product is a custom blend of monomers, including the company’s proprietary 10-Methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP) monomer, along with Amide and Urethane Tetramethacrylate (UTM). This formulation enables the adhesive to create an immediate bond to both dentin and enamel, forming a uniform layer that avoids pooling and promotes consistent bond strength.

Versatility in Application

The adhesive’s versatility is another key feature, as it can be used with a range of restorative approaches. Dr. Schmedding explains, “I think Universal Bond Quick 2 hits that mark for a lot of people in the sense that it’s a quick application time and it’s a very thin material. So, it thins out very, very well and one of the benefits of that is simply for seating of indirect restorations.”

Building on a Legacy

Kuraray Noritake Dental’s reputation in the field of dental adhesives is well-established, dating back to their introduction of the first adhesive monomer in dental history in 1976. Dr. Schmedding reflects on this legacy: “With Kuraray you’re obviously getting a reputation. You’re getting the history that precedes this company.”

Looking to the Future

As dental practices continue to seek ways to improve efficiency without compromising on quality, products like CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 may play a crucial role. Dr. Schmedding concludes, “I cannot recommend a greater product, especially with the amount of adhesive dentistry that’s going on in this world. You’ve got to have the bread and butter, and the bread and butter starts with your bonding agent.”

With its combination of simplicity, versatility, and proven technology, CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2 represents a significant step forward in dental adhesive technology, potentially setting a new standard for bonding procedures in dental practices worldwide.
