Teacher Endures Years of Hardship After Botched Dental Implant

UK: Ellen Bonham, a 43-year-old teacher from London, faced years of hardship after a dental implant procedure went awry, leaving her unable to eat properly. The ordeal, which began in April 2019 at Finest Dental in London, unfolded into a four-year-long struggle to rectify the botched dental work.

Initial Procedure and Immediate Complications

Ms. Bonham sought treatment from Dr. Maria Socorro Cobo Yera with the expectation of a lasting solution. However, the aftermath of the procedure was marked by severe swelling and excruciating pain.

Despite raising concerns about the persistent pain, she was reassured that it would subside quickly. The initial promise of completion by August of that year turned into prolonged suffering.

As Ms. Bonham continued the implant-related appointments, the unexpected departure of Dr. Yera from the practice in October left her in disarray. Arriving for a scheduled appointment in February, she discovered that the dental practice had gone bankrupt, compounding her troubles.

Seeking a second opinion, Ms. Bonham visited another dentist, only to be shocked by the extent of damage revealed through a CT scan. The implants, installed just over a year earlier, were failing, and corrective measures such as bone grafting or removal and restoration were deemed necessary due to their proximity to nerves.

Legal Action and Ongoing Struggles

Frustrated with her predicament, Ms. Bonham turned to the Dental Law Partnership in 2020. Subsequent investigations indicated that the entire ordeal could have been avoided with the use of quality implants from the start. Despite receiving a £26,000 payout, Ms. Bonham’s corrective journey is ongoing, marked by persistent infections, pain, and the looming possibility of losing at least four implants.

Ms. Bonham’s diet has been severely impacted, relying on soft foods due to the precarious state of two remaining implants. The enduring challenges highlight the significant toll of a dental procedure gone wrong, raising questions about the quality and oversight within the dental care industry.
