South Korea: The Chihyup Election Commission held a meeting on January 31st at the Chihyup Hall to review major issues related to the 33rd presidential election of the Korea Dental Association (KDA). The number of voters in this election is estimated to be around 15,500, as of January 1st, 2023.
Election Schedule Confirmed
The Dental Cooperative Election Commission, also known as the National Election Commission (NEC), held a meeting on January 31st to discuss the election schedule and the major issues related to the 33rd presidential election.
The 33rd presidential election will commence with the announcement of the election on January 16th. The electoral roll reading period will take place from January 26th to February 9th, followed by candidate registration on February 6th and 7th. The 33rd presidential election day is set for March 7th, with a potential runoff vote on March 9th if necessary.
Political Opinion Presentation & Election Implementation
During the meeting of the National Election Commission, the selection of regions for holding political opinion presentations was discussed. Five regions, including the metropolitan area (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Gongjik, Gunjin, etc.), Chungcheong, Honam, Yeongnam, and Jeju were selected to hold political opinion presentations. The NEC members decided to directly participate in the metropolitan area’s presentation.
The National Election Commission decided to appoint an advisory lawyer after reviewing the white papers containing the past election process. Korea Electronic Voting was selected as the implementer for SMS text voting after an open bidding process. SMS text voting will be the only rule in this election, with online voting (e-mail) as an option for voters who do not have a mobile phone or are unable to receive text messages.
