3M introduces Filtek Matrix restorative system

3M Oral Care has introduced the 3M Filtek Matrix, a restorative system designed to make composite placement less invasive and more predictable.

The new custom matrix system is a digitally designed customized anterior matrix system that streamlines conservative, composite treatment.

Minimally invasive dental bonding

It helps the clinician transfer the digital design to the patient’s teeth using 3M dental composites. Unlike more traditional ceramic procedures that often require the removal of tooth structure, the Filtek Matrix relies on additive composite techniques where little to no tooth reduction is required.

Using the Filtek Matrix, the dental bonding process begins with diagnosis and scan of the patient’s teeth, followed by getting the digitally designed restoration approved, and applying the Filtek Matrix to deliver conservative direct composite outcomes that are predictable, efficient and aesthetic.

Confidence booster

According to the company, dentists reported following a clinical evaluation that using the matrix had “increased their confidence, delivered predictable and aesthetic results, and saved chair time”.

“This product brings together leading material science and digital innovation to enable clinicians to predictably and efficiently transform patient smiles,” said Andrew Milder, global portfolio director, 3M Oral Care. “It is exciting to see the amazing results that clinicians have delivered using the Filtek Matrix.”

It takes two

Clinicians can pair the Filtek Matrix with 3M Filtek Dental Restoratives to deliver composite strength and wear resistance for patients, said 3M.

Pairing Filtek Matrix with 3M Filtek Supreme Ultra Universal Restorative, you can create strong, natural-looking results for every restoration, thanks to the latter’s proprietary TRUE nanotechnology said to retain its natural gloss better than other composites.
