AI Voice Technology Crosses Millionth Mark In Perio Charts

Denti.AI has announced that its Voice Perio product has completed over one million periodontal charts, marking a significant development in dental practice automation. The system enables dental hygienists to perform periodontal charting without assistance and in approximately half the traditional time, helping practices increase their examination capacity.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Dental Care

Despite recommendations from the American Academy of Periodontology for annual periodontal assessments for all U.S. adults, statistics from 2023 reveal that only 16% of adult dental patients received comprehensive periodontal examinations. This shortfall largely stems from the time-intensive nature of manual charting procedures. The current market shows limited adoption of voice charting technology, with less than 10% of U.S. dental practices utilizing such systems.
The technology has garnered positive feedback from major dental service organizations. Cameron Jones, VP of hygiene support for Aspen Dental, noted that “Denti.AI Voice Perio has been a game-changer for our practitioners,” emphasizing how the technology allows hygienists to dedicate more time to patient care.

Practical Benefits in Daily Practice

The system’s implementation has shown measurable improvements in practice efficiency. According to Diane McCabe, RDH, from Favia Family Dental, “Denti.AI Voice can buy us up to 20 minutes per patient, and our acceptance rate has soared.” The technology has particularly resonated with larger dental organizations, with Elite Dental Partners reporting significant operational improvements. Their director of hygiene, Cherie Score, stated that “The ability to complete perio charts quickly and accurately without an assistant has allowed us to reallocate resources more effectively.”
The platform integrates with existing practice management systems and includes automated features such as AAP staging and bleeding percentage calculations. This comprehensive approach helps streamline the examination process while maintaining accuracy and completeness in patient documentation. The system has demonstrated particular strength in accurate voice recognition across different accents and provides rapid setup capabilities.

Market Adoption and Future Outlook

The technology has seen accelerated adoption throughout 2024, with the majority of its one million completed charts occurring during this period. The company has secured contracts with three of the top ten Dental Service Organizations in the United States, alongside numerous smaller practices, indicating growing acceptance across the dental sector.

The platform aims to address the needs of over 400,000 dentists and hygienists currently underserved by existing technological solutions, potentially marking a significant shift in how dental practices approach periodontal examinations and documentation.
