Continued Dental Education Programme Highlights Advancements in Endodontic Techniques

INDIA: A recent Continued Dental Education (CDE) programme hosted by the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Dr. Z.A. Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), brought together a range of experts to discuss the latest developments in endodontic techniques. The event, organized to enhance the knowledge of young faculty members and postgraduate students, covered state-of-the-art technologies in dental practice, with a particular focus on Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and advanced navigation techniques in endodontics.

The programme, held on September 11, 2024, was detailed in a report by India Education Diary, shedding light on the growing importance of innovative tools in the dental field.

Transformative Role of CBCT in Dental Trauma

One of the event’s most anticipated sessions was the keynote lecture by Prof. Ajay Logani, Head of the Center for Dental Education and Research (CDER) at AIIMS, New Delhi. His presentation, titled “Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) in Dental Trauma,” emphasized the vital role that CBCT is playing in modern dentistry, especially when dealing with dental trauma.

Prof. Logani described how CBCT has revolutionized the way clinicians approach the diagnosis and management of complex cases. He pointed out the precision that this imaging technology offers, allowing dentists to gain highly accurate, three-dimensional images of dental structures. This innovation, according to Prof. Logani, has been pivotal in improving patient outcomes by offering more informed treatment plans. The lecture provided the attendees with valuable insights into the clinical applications of CBCT, showcasing its potential to become a staple in trauma-related dental care.

Navigational Advances in Endodontics

Another significant highlight was the lecture delivered by Dr. Sidhartha Sharma from CDER, AIIMS, New Delhi, who explored cutting-edge navigational technologies used in endodontics. His talk, titled “Static and Dynamic Navigation in Endodontics,” offered a detailed overview of how these technologies are enhancing precision and accuracy in endodontic procedures.

Dr. Sharma provided a comprehensive explanation of both static and dynamic navigational methods. Static navigation relies on pre-planned, virtual guides, while dynamic navigation involves real-time tracking of instruments during procedures. These technologies not only improve procedural accuracy but also minimize the margin for error, offering patients safer and more efficient treatment. As Dr. Sharma explained, this innovation is an exciting leap forward for the field of endodontics, positioning it at the cutting edge of dental technology.

Distinguished Attendees and Organizers

The programme saw attendance from several notable figures within the university. Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), and Prof. R.K. Tewari, Chairperson of the Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics and Principal of Dr. Z.A. Dental College, were both present at the event. Their support underscored the importance of continuing education and fostering collaboration between different medical and dental disciplines.

Certificates were presented to the speakers by Prof. Ashok Kumar and Prof. Surendra Kumar Mishra, acknowledging their contributions to the event. The speakers were introduced to the audience in a formal ceremony, adding to the sense of occasion and academic excellence.

Closing Remarks and Acknowledgments

The event was meticulously organized under the leadership of Dr. Syed Mukhtar Un Nisar Andrabi, who served as the organizing chairperson, with Dr. Sajid Ali managing the financial aspects as the event’s treasurer. Coordination of the lectures was handled by Dr. Sharique Alam, ensuring the event ran smoothly, while Dr. Huma Iftekhar delivered a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the speakers and participants for their valuable contributions.

The CDE programme not only provided attendees with the opportunity to learn from leading experts in the field but also demonstrated the commitment of Dr. Z.A. Dental College and AMU to staying at the forefront of dental education and innovation. The event was a significant step forward in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and clinical practice in endodontics.
