CYROLITE-Infused Technology Enables Pain-Free Injections

USA: For the past 25 years, Milestone Scientific, a leading US-based company specialising in injection technology, has been at the forefront of revolutionising pain-free dental injections. Central to their groundbreaking system’s success is CYROLITE by Röhm, a high-quality, transparent, acrylic-based plastic designed for medical applications.

Material for Medical Technology

CYROLITE meets stringent standards, including the USP Class VI material standard and the ISO10993-1 standard for plastics used in pharmaceutical and medical technology. Moreover, CYROLITE is biocompatible, free from bisphenol A, and exhibits ultra-low extractables and leachable characteristics, alongside remarkable chemical resistance. These qualities make it an ideal choice for manufacturing diagnostic equipment, disposable devices such as IV connectors, catheter components, and syringes.

At the heart of Milestone Scientific’s achievement is the Single Tooth Anaesthesia System, known as STA. This device not only enables pain-free injections but also allows precise anaesthetisation of individual teeth. What sets it apart is the avoidance of post-treatment numbness in larger sections of the jaw, enhancing the patient experience.

Conventional syringe injections, despite a dentist’s best efforts, can cause significant discomfort due to the pressure applied when injecting liquid into human tissue. This often results in a painful burst-effect. STA, on the other hand, offers a more comfortable solution. The computer-controlled system manages the needle’s position, exit pressure, and anaesthetic flow rate with precision. Patients experience injections so smoothly that they hardly notice the process. Dentists need only guide the applicator with the cannula to the injection site and activate the device via a foot pedal.

Lightweight and User-Friendly

The Wand STA’s applicator, constructed from CYROLITE, offers a significant advantage over traditional ampule syringes with stainless steel housing. Its lightweight, pen-like design enhances ease of use for dentists, who can hold it between three fingertips and execute precise bi-rotational movements. CYROLITE’s flexibility also allows for adjustments in applicator length, providing added convenience when treating children and nervous patients.

CYROLITE GS-90, the chosen grade for The Wand STA’s handpieces, excels in processing properties. Its high heat deflection temperature and excellent melt flow rate make it ideal for precise injection moulding and extrusion of thin-walled and complex parts while maintaining high stability. This material’s impact resistance and compatibility with body fluids, chemicals, and drugs further contribute to the device’s performance.

Transparent Clarity for Critical Monitoring

The transparency of CYROLITE remains undiminished even after gamma sterilisation. This feature is pivotal in dental procedures, as it allows dentists to visually verify the anaesthetic’s delivery and check that the needle has not punctured a blood vessel during the injection.

Milestone Scientific has continuously relied on Röhm’s consistent supply of CYROLITE moulding compound to manufacture nearly 15 million The Wand STA devices over the past quarter-century, sold in 45 countries. The material’s unwavering quality has been a cornerstone of their innovative success.

The collaboration between Milestone Scientific and CYROLITE by Röhm has paved the way for enhanced patient comfort and precision in dental injections. The use of CYROLITE in The Wand STA demonstrates the pivotal role advanced materials play in evolving dental technologies and improving the patient experience.
