Korea: Dentis, a research center, is developing DENOPS-i, which is reportedly the world’s first portable intraosseous painless anesthetic device. The device was developed to reduce the pain and fear of anesthesia experienced by patients and is set to be released on June 1st, 2023.
Reduced Pain for Anesthesia
Conventional intraosseous anesthesia involved drilling dense bone using a bur and creating a passage for the needle to enter. This process made the procedure cumbersome when intraosseous anesthesia was required.
However, according to the manufacturer, DENOPS-i is equipped with a motor that rotates quickly, allowing the needle to pass through the cortical bone like a drill and safely reach the trabecular bone. By injecting the anesthetic solution at the cancellous bone position with Computer Controlled Local Anesthetic Delivery (CCLAD), the pain and side effects felt by the patient are greatly reduced, says Dentis.
Convenient and User-Friendly Device
DENOPS-i is a portable intraosseous anesthetic device that can be moved freely within the treatment room, making it convenient to use. The device includes a foot controller, and the controller box is equipped with an LCD window that displays the operation status in real-time.
The handpiece is also equipped with an LED window that displays the amount of anesthesia injection and injection mode. The device maximizes user convenience by providing functions such as forced forward and needle mounting.
