Dentsply Sirona Expands Board with Two New Appointments

Dentsply Sirona Inc., a global leader in dental products and technologies, has announced the appointment of Michael J. Barber and Daniel T. Scavilla to its Board of Directors, effective February 5, 2025. The move reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its governance and aligning its leadership with its strategic priorities.

Michael Barber brings over four decades of experience in product management and innovation, including a transformative tenure at General Electric (GE), where he spearheaded advancements in digital X-Ray technology. Daniel Scavilla, currently the CEO of Globus Medical, is known for his expertise in commercial deployment and business integration, particularly through his leadership during the merger of Globus Medical and NuVasive.

Greg Lucier, Chairman of the Board, expressed confidence in the new appointments, stating, “We are pleased to welcome Mike and Dan, two proven leaders with skillsets that are additive to the expertise already represented on our Board and that will be extremely valuable as we continue to execute our transformation strategy.” He emphasized the importance of broad healthcare experience, innovation, and operational capabilities in driving the company’s mission to improve global oral health.

A Focus on Innovation and Transformation

Both appointees bring distinct strengths to their roles. Mr. Barber will join the Science and Technology Committee, leveraging his extensive background in engineering and diagnostic imaging. Meanwhile, Mr. Scavilla will serve on the Audit and Finance Committee, drawing from his financial acumen and executive leadership in the healthcare sector. “I am honored to join the Board and continue to drive forward Dentsply Sirona’s mission of transforming and advancing innovation,” Mr. Scavilla remarked. “As a longtime executive in the healthcare industry, I look forward to bringing my insights and experience to support the Company’s strategic growth.”

Departure of Dr. Dorothea Wenzel

In conjunction with these appointments, Dentsply Sirona announced the resignation of Dr. Dorothea Wenzel from the Board, effective February 5, 2025. Dr. Wenzel cited increased demands from her recent chair nomination as the reason for her departure.

Mr. Lucier acknowledged her contributions, saying, “On behalf of the Board and management team, I want to thank Dorothea for her contributions to our Company. The Board has benefitted greatly from her expertise and guidance.”

Dr. Wenzel expressed her gratitude and optimism for the company’s future, stating, “It has been an honor to serve on the Board over the last few years. I’m confident in the Board and management team’s ability to deliver on the Company’s strategy and drive long-term growth and profitability.”

Strengthening Governance for Future Success

The addition of Mr. Barber and Mr. Scavilla increases the Board’s size from 10 to 11 members. Over the past two years, the Board has added four highly qualified members, reflecting a deliberate effort to refresh its composition and ensure alignment with the evolving needs of the dental industry.

About the New Appointees

Michael Barber

With over 40 years of experience at GE, Mr. Barber has held executive roles spanning operations, human capital, engineering, and product management. His achievements include launching transformative technologies in diagnostic imaging and point-of-care solutions. In addition to his role at Dentsply Sirona, Mr. Barber serves on the boards of Exact Sciences, Inc. and the Green Bay Packers Football Club. He holds a Bachelor of Science and an Honorary Doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and is a Member of the National Academy of Engineering.

Daniel Scavilla

Mr. Scavilla has served as CEO of Globus Medical since April 2022, leading the acquisition and integration of NuVasive to create one of the largest spine technology companies globally. Prior to Globus Medical, he spent 28 years at Johnson & Johnson in various leadership roles. Mr. Scavilla holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance and Organizational Behavior from LaSalle University and an MBA in International Management from Temple University.
