DRA DIGEST: November 2023 edition

Welcome to DRA DIGEST — the Newsletter of Dental Resource Asia (DRA).

Dear DRA Digest Community,

I hope this message finds you well amidst the rigors of our noble profession. Today, I bring your attention to a pressing global concern that not only affects our patient community but resonates close to home among healthcare professionals and dentists, including all of you, our valued readers.

The latest Cigna Healthcare Vitality Study 2023 sheds light on a sombre reality – a global well-being crisis fuelled by high levels of stress and burnout. The study, encompassing insights from over 10,800 participants across 12 markets, paints a concerning picture. Only one in five individuals maintains a high level of vitality, with mental health emerging as a pivotal determinant.

As dental healthcare professionals, we are not immune to the impact of this crisis. Stress and burnout persist at alarming levels, affecting the majority of respondents. The toll on our mental health, exacerbated by external stressors like the global cost-of-living crisis and the pervasive “uncertainty about the future,” underscores the urgency of addressing well-being in our profession.

While the study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to well-being, extending beyond traditional health metrics, it is crucial for us to acknowledge the challenges within our own ranks. The demands of the dental profession, coupled with external pressures, necessitate a vigilant and cautious approach as we navigate our professional journeys.

As we absorb this information, let us collectively acknowledge the importance of fostering a positive work culture within our dental practices. The well-being of our patients and our own hinges on the vitality of our workplace. Building relationships, maintaining open communication, and supporting one another become paramount in such trying times.

May we stand united in our commitment to providing the best care for our patients and ourselves. Together, we can navigate the challenges of our profession, emerging stronger and more resilient.

In the spirit of unity and well-being,
The DRA Digest Team
