Emirates Health Services Cuts Orthodontic Visits by Half

UAE: Emirates Health Services (EHS) has made significant strides in reducing bureaucracy and enhancing the efficiency of preventive dental check-ups for students in Dubai. This innovative approach aligns with national visions and the goals of the “Zero Bureaucracy” programme, resulting in a remarkable 50% reduction in future orthodontic visits for each patient.

Significant Time and Cost Savings

Dr. Essam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of the Clinical Services Sector at EHS, highlighted the impact of these improvements:

“The improvements associated with this service are expected to reduce 24,000 visits annually in the future.”

This streamlined process is anticipated to cut treatment duration by 12 months per patient, significantly improving access to healthcare services. Moreover, parents can expect to save an average of AED 10,000 per student on orthodontic treatment costs.

Digital Transformation Enhances Accessibility

The initiative has achieved 100% digital transformation in the procedures for obtaining preventive dental check-ups for school students. This technological advancement facilitates faster and more effective access to care for both students and their parents.

Dr. Haifa Hannawi, Director of the Dental Services Department at EHS, elaborated on the benefits:

“It is expected that the number of treatment visits to the dentist will be reduced from 24 to 12 visits per customer, along with reducing waiting times and congestion in health centres.”

Preventive Approach Yields Long-term Benefits

The EHS’s preventive dental check-up programme focuses on early intervention, particularly for malocclusion (misalignment of teeth). This proactive approach not only simplifies procedures but also improves the overall customer experience.

Dr. Al Zarooni expressed pride in these achievements, stating:

“These results reflect EHS’ commitment to improving the customer experience and providing effective healthcare.”

Looking Ahead

As this initiative continues to evolve, it is expected to have far-reaching effects on dental health services in Dubai. By reducing bureaucracy and emphasizing prevention, EHS is setting a new standard for efficient and effective student dental care.

The success of this programme demonstrates the potential for similar approaches in other areas of healthcare, potentially revolutionizing service delivery across the sector.
