The Malaysian Dental Association has announced the cancellation of its 29th Scientific Convention and Trade Exhibition, better known by its acronym SCATE 2022.
Originally set to take place from 3 – 6 March, 2022, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the MDA announced the cancellation on its Facebook page on 19 January.
“Greetings to all friends of MDA, it is with much regret that the 29th MDA Scientific Convention and Trade Exhibition (SCATE 2022) will be cancelled,” says the MDA post.
“Stay tuned to our social media platforms for ongoing events exclusive for MDA members, as well as the upcoming MIDEC 2022! Mark your calendars for 5th-7th August 2022.”
The post included a formal announcement by MDA’s Dr Angie Wong, which cites the cause of cancellation “in view of the COVID-19 virus still raging unabated, especially the Omicron variant”.
Dr Wong quoted Malaysian health minister YB Khairy Jamaluddin: “The Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered (SIER) epidemiological prediction model has projected that Malaysia could record 30,000 COVID-19 cases daily by the end of March should rate of infection (RO) rise to 16.”
The announcement further informed about the upcoming Malaysian International Dental Exhibition & Conference (MIDEC 2022) as a “new and exciting event” to be held form 5-7 August 2022 as another major event to look out for.
