INDIA: A 28-year-old man, Laxmi Narayan Vinjan, tragically passed away after undergoing a cosmetic dental procedure aimed at enhancing his smile just days before his wedding. The incident occurred at FMS International Dental Center in Hyderabad, sparking accusations of medical negligence from the bereaved family.
Vinjan’s father, Ramulu, filed a complaint alleging negligence against the hospital, stating that his son fell unconscious during the dental procedure and subsequently passed away. The police registered a case under section 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code, and an investigation is underway.
Hospital Denies Allegations, Cites Following Protocols
FMS International Dental Center has refuted claims of negligence, asserting that they followed standard protocols during the procedure. Dr. B V Rama Krishna Reddy, the chief maxillofacial surgeon at the hospital, explained that Vinjan visited the clinic for a bridge removal and crown lengthening procedure, which is commonly performed.
Dr. Reddy emphasized that the clinic followed all necessary procedures and administered a simple dosage of anesthesia, as per routine. He detailed the events of the procedure, noting that Vinjan experienced post-operative pain, which is common, and was given appropriate medication. However, Vinjan’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to his unfortunate demise.
Investigation and Awaited Post-Mortem Report
The Jubilee Hills police, led by Station House Officer K Venkateshwar Reddy, are conducting an investigation into the incident. They are reviewing medical records and CCTV footage from the clinic while awaiting the post-mortem examination report.
Dr. Reddy expressed bewilderment at the unexpected turn of events, stating that Vinjan appeared normal during the procedure. The hospital awaits further insights from the medical team and the post-mortem report to understand the cause of Vinjan’s tragic death.
