China: The International Institute of Oral Implantology (ITI) China Branch and the Oral Medicine Branch of the Bethune Spirit Research Association organized the 2022 ITI Oral Implant Symposium-Zhejiang University Oral Implantation Seminar on 8 May.
The main theme of the online conference centered on “Implant restoration in the digital age”, comprising of multi-dimensional and comprehensive academic exchanges and discussions around the new concept of oral implantation.
The event featured several keynote speakers including: Prof Su Yucheng of Peking Union Medical College Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Prof Wu Yiqun of Ninth People’s Hospital, Professor Man Yi of West China Stomatological Hospital of Sichuan University; Professor Liu Zhonghao of Yantai Stomatological Hospital, Professor Wang of Oral Implantology, Zhejiang University.
Prof Su shared the developmental process of implant surgery from traditional treatment to digital treatment, and introduced the changes brought about by digitalization from four aspects: diagnosis and design, surgery, craftsmanship and repair.
Dividing the development of digital surgery into three parts – guided plate surgery, navigation surgery and robotic surgery – he introduced the advantages and disadvantages of the three surgical techniques, with particular focus on the development status of robotic surgery.
Prof Wu presented on the “Dynamic navigation of edentulous jaw implants”. He shared the technical principles of the dynamic navigation system in detail, as well as the indications, advantages and disadvantages of the dynamic navigation system in clinical applications.
A video of the surgical process is used to vividly introduce the role and advantages of dynamic navigation in the edentulous implant process, especially in the zygomatic implant surgery. Prof Wu shared the research and development progress of the Ninth Institute team in the field of implanting robots, so that the students could better understand the latest developments in dynamic navigation technology.
Prof Man presented on the “Application of digital guide plate in edentulous jaw”. Beginning with a case of implant restoration with severe bone defect, he spoke about the implant position deviation caused by traditional implant methods. He also introduced the functions and features of the digital guide plate, and its detailed use in the implant restoration of the edentulous jaw.
