India: The Indian Dental Association (IDA) has taken a creative and proactive step towards spreading awareness about oral health and preventing oral cancer by converting a double-decker KSRTC bus into a mobile exhibition.
This initiative, named the ‘Dental Rath Yatra,’ was launched in Thiruvananthapuram on World No-Tobacco Day.
Inauguration and Objectives
The Dental Rath Yatra was flagged off by Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil from Gandhi Park, marking the beginning of this innovative campaign.
The bus aimed to provide preliminary counselling to individuals seeking to quit smoking. The moving exhibition traveled from Gandhi Park to Veli, concluding the journey at Shankhumukham, while offering counselling services to people along the way. Dr. Deepa, the Secretary of ASMIK, acted as the counsellor during the event.
Promoting Oral Cancer Screening and Tobacco Awareness
As part of this initiative, the IDA also launched the ‘Tejas’ project, which focuses on raising awareness about oral cancer screening and educating individuals about the harmful effects of tobacco use. Dr Sangeeth Cherian, the IDA state president, expressed the organisation’s commitment to implementing more projects in Kerala to enhance oral health and prevent tobacco-related diseases.
