Korean Dental Association holds Presidential Election Policy Debate

South Korea: The Korean Dental Association‘s Election Management Committee held its 33rd presidential election policy debate at the Dentist Association Hall on February 15th.

The event was attended by all candidates, including Symbol No. 1 Candidate Chiwon Choi, Candidate No. 2 Park Tae-geun, Symbol Candidate Jaewan Jang, Symbol No. 4 Kim Min-gyeom and others who ran in the election.
The highlight of the policy debate was a mutual questioning session in which candidates asked each other questions one at a time.

Hair-raising concerns

Candidate Chiwon Choi questioned Candidate Park Tae-geun about his medical license cancellation law and asked whether he had shaved his head in front of the National Assembly as a candidate or as the president of the association.

He also questioned the appropriateness of sending text messages to members regarding a news article about the president’s haircut. Candidate Park Tae-geun responded by saying that he had shaved his head in consultation with the president of the Korean Medical Association and the Korean Medical Association, and that the matter of the text messages should be left for the National Election Commission to decide.

Opposition to the external accounting audit pledge questioned

Candidate Chiwon Choi also questioned Candidate Jae-wan Jang about his opposition to the external accounting audit pledge. Candidate Jae-wan Jang refuted the point, saying that he had attended the general meeting of delegates as a representative of the Seoul branch and delivered the opinion of the then financial director of the Chihyup. He emphasized that external auditing is essential for a clean executive department.

Candidate Park Tae-geun questioned Candidate Jae-wan Jang about his role as vice chairman in relation to the labour-management agreement that was the beginning of the dental cooperative by-election.

Candidate Jae-wan Jang said that some delegates rejected the budget bill, and even led to the unprecedented resignation of the president of the association. He also highlighted that the budget content was the same in both the 31st and 32nd executive branches.

The Korean Dental Association’s presidential election is scheduled to be held on February 25th.
