Indonesia: The Ministry of Health in Indonesia has released a circular regarding the division of competencies to address the intersection of services involving specialist doctors in hospitals.
This is to prevent the possibility of debates and internal conflicts within medical professional organizations, and to improve patient care.
The circular was issued to respond to the existence of the same or intersecting competencies between specialist doctors, dental specialists, and sub-specialist doctors and dentists.
The circular aims to arrange shared competency so that there are no mutual claims on services, particularly in certain medical services that can be performed by specialists from different specialties or subspecialties.
Competency Standards for Specialist and Sub-Specialist Fields
The Ministry of Health also requires every health worker to have competency standards that have been approved in accordance with statutory provisions or white papers for each specialist or sub-specialist field.
They must also have a clinical appointment based on the recommendation of the medical committee from the leadership of the hospital where they work.
The medical committee’s recommendations are given based on competency certificates or other documents that prove the competence of medical personnel.
Monitoring and Evaluation is Key
The Ministry of Health pays attention to the monitoring and evaluation aspect of the application of competency division which is carried out regularly in providing effective, quality, and standardized health services to ensure quality and patient safety.
The results of the monitoring and evaluation are submitted to the Minister of Health through the Director General of Health Services every three months, and are used as material for conducting assessments in the process of hospital accreditation and re-accreditation.
