New Dental E App Connecting Dentistry and Japanese Public for Improved Oral Health

Japan: Planet Corporation, has unveiled a new app called “Dental E” aimed at bridging the gap between the general public and oral health information.

The app, launched on June 4th to coincide with Oral Health Week, offers users a platform to understand and manage their oral health effectively. With user-friendly illustrations, explanations, and a convenient appointment scheduling feature, “Dental E” aims to promote dental prevention and encourage regular check-ups.

Universal Dental Examination System

In response to the growing interest in dental prevention, the Japanese government is taking measures to introduce the “Universal Dental Examination” system by approximately 2025. This system aims to protect the dental health of the public and extend healthy life expectancy, as more individuals are seeking “oral maintenance” rather than solely relying on treatment for dental issues.

The “Dental E” app is meant to function as a link between dental clinics and patients, allowing users to access and manage their oral health data on their mobile devices. The app not only enables patients to keep their own diagnostic records as personal health records but also serves as a digital examination card. By facilitating online appointment scheduling with dental clinics and visualizing the progress of treatments and maintenance through diagnostic records, “Dental E” establishes a proactive cycle for maintaining and managing oral health, combining self-care at home with regular check-ups at dental clinics.

The Dental E app is currently available for iOS devices, with an Android version scheduled for release on September 29, 2023.

“We aimed to create a system that is easy to understand from the patients’ perspective. Currently, the smartphone penetration rate accounts for 96.3% of mobile phone owners, and we will leverage that. I believe that unless the general public actively participates in medical care, we cannot provide good medical services,” said Kazuhito Koike, Representative Director and Chairman of Planet Corporation. “…With this app, we can provide the information that doctors want to convey.”

Engaging Exclusive Content

One notable feature of the “Dental E” app is its engaging character content targeting young children. By employing manga and anime featuring adorable animated characters, the app delivers valuable advice on tooth brushing and other oral health care practices. Additionally, it offers a wide range of topics, including nutrition education and parenting, to promote holistic oral health care support.

In an exciting development, the Dental E app has joined forces with the youth anime series “Yakunara Mug Cup mo” (meaning “Let’s Make a Mug Too”). This series portrays the growth of four high school girls and highlights Mino-yaki, a traditional craft in the Higashi-Nō region, including Tajimi City. Produced by the late Seiichiro Hori, the creator of Tokyo Disneyland, the series has gained popularity through serialization in free papers, online availability, and a successful TV anime in 2021.

The collaboration with Dental E includes the exclusive distribution of a new spin-off anime called “Rokuro no Daibouken,” produced by renowned members of the anime industry led by Kōichirō Itō, known for his work on renowned productions like “Your Name”. This unique project adds a fresh and interesting element to the app.
