SINGAPORE: The Public Service Division (PSD) of Singapore has announced a new annual benefit for eligible civil servants, set to commence this October. The programme, dubbed ‘FlexiGrow’, will provide a yearly allowance of S$500 to support personal well-being and growth activities.
Minister-in-charge of the Public Service, Chan Chun Sing, unveiled the initiative during his address at the opening of Public Service Week held at ITE College Central. The PSD emphasised the inclusive nature of the benefit, stating, “We intend for most officers to benefit from FlexiGrow.”
This allowance can be utilised for a range of activities, including personal development courses and fitness programmes, demonstrating the government’s commitment to holistic employee welfare.
Medical and Dental Benefits Set for Significant Boost
In a move to further enhance the welfare of civil servants, Mr Chan also announced improvements to medical and dental benefits, scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2025.
Increased Medical Subsidies
The current medical subsidy scheme, which allows civil servants to claim up to S$500 annually, will see a substantial increase in the per-visit cap for outpatient expenses at private clinics. This cap will rise from the current S$20 to S$50 per visit.
The PSD highlighted the alignment of this enhancement with the national HealthierSG initiative, noting, “With this, officers eligible for HealthierSG can also better adhere to their personalised health plans with their registered HealthierSG clinic.”
Dental Care Emphasis
Recognising the importance of oral health, the annual dental subsidy will more than double, increasing from S$120 to S$250. This significant boost aims to encourage regular dental check-ups and maintain good oral health among public service employees.
Inclusive Approach to Public Service Well-being
These new benefits will not be limited to current full-time employees. The PSD confirmed that re-employed officers and employees of Statutory Boards will also be eligible, ensuring comprehensive support across the public service sector.
Adapting to a Changing Environment
Minister Chan underscored the rationale behind these enhancements, acknowledging the challenges faced by public servants in an ever-evolving landscape. He stated, “In an environment of constant change, we know it can be unsettling and even exhausting for our officers.”
Emphasising the importance of mutual support, Chan added, “We need to take care of ourselves; we need to take care of each other in this long journey ahead. This is what our Public Service is committed to.”
