Product: Ortek-ECD early cavity detection device

This early cavity detection device from Ortek Therapeutics Inc. can spot cavity lesions on the surfaces of teeth before they would show up on an x-ray.

Touted as the “New Standard in Caries Detection”, the Ortek-ECD is able to detect if highly prevalent occlusal lesions have initially breached the dentin-enamel junction. It can determine whether the lesions have advanced further into the dentin, are confined to the enamel or are just affected by stain.

The ECD then displays a digital caries score from 0-100 depending on the extent of decay into the dentin, if any.

Accurate diagnosis of early occlusal caries has been a daunting diagnostic challenge for dental professionals. Even with the help of x-rays, occlusal caries are often undetected until demineralization has extended to or beyond the middle third of the dentin.

When it comes to diagnosing questionable occlusal lesions, visual inspection can be subjective.

Ortek-ECD is designed to remove the guesswork from diagnosing occlusal lesions. Using Electronic Conductance Technology, the device is fast and easy to use – permanently calibrated – and does not require ionizing radiation.
