Comprehensive Dental Camps Organised by Nava Limited and Rohini Foundation
INDIA: More than 1,000 students from government schools in Telangana’s Paloncha mandal have undergone dental screenings as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The initiative, spearheaded by Nava Limited in collaboration with the Rohini Foundation, aims to improve oral health and overall well-being among school-going children in the region.
Scope of the Dental Camps
The dental camps, conducted under the ‘Oral care iron healthy child programme’, provided a range of medical examinations to 1,040 students. Dr. Alekhya of the Rohini Foundation detailed the comprehensive nature of the tests:
“As part of the programme, we conducted quick vital signs checks, hemoglobin tests, dental examinations, ultrasonic scaling, and fluoride applications for the students.”
Schools Covered and Findings
According to Nava Limited’s General Manager MGM Prasad, the medical examinations were carried out across several educational institutions:
“We conducted examinations for students of Zilla Parishad High Schools at old Palvancha, Kommugudem, Karakavagu, KTPS, Navabharat High School and Mandal Parishad Primary Schools at old Palvancha, Palakoya Tanda Kommugudem and Karakavagu.”
The dental camps revealed some concerning health issues among the students. Rear Admiral (veteran) Lingam Venkata Sarath Babu, Vice President and Unit Head (Telangana operations) of Nava Limited Paloncha, shared the findings:
“In these dental examinations, 250 students were found to have low hemoglobin, 287 students were given ultrasonic scaling tests and 226 students were found to have tooth decay.”
Addressing Health Concerns
To address the health issues identified during the screenings, the organisers took immediate action. Iron folic acid and vitamin C medicines were distributed to the students who needed them, demonstrating a proactive approach to improving the overall health of the young participants.
Corporate Social Responsibility in Action
This initiative stands as a testament to the potential impact of corporate social responsibility programmes in addressing community health needs. Rear Admiral Babu emphasised the reach of the programme:
“The dental camps organised as part of the company CSR initiative covered 10 government schools in Paloncha mandal.”
By focusing on government schools, the programme aims to reach students who might otherwise have limited access to dental care, potentially making a significant difference in their long-term health outcomes.
Conclusion
The dental camps organised by Nava Limited and the Rohini Foundation represent a significant step towards improving the oral health and overall well-being of students in government schools. By combining dental care with broader health screenings, the initiative offers a holistic approach to student health, potentially setting a model for similar programmes across the region.
