Pacific Dental Services CEO Stephen E. Thorne IV Joins Forsyth Institute Board

The Forsyth Institute, a prominent oral health research and clinical care organization, has appointed Stephen E. Thorne, IV, Founder and CEO of Pacific Dental Services (PDS), to its Board of Directors. With nearly 1,000 dental and medical practices under its umbrella, PDS is one of the leading dental support organizations in the United States.

Expertise in Holistic Models of Healthcare

Thorne’s expertise in building holistic models of healthcare is a major reason why Forsyth is excited to have him on board. PDS completed an integration with the largest electronic health records system, Epic, last August, making dental/medical data integration possible for the first time. Thorne was also instrumental in forming the Association of Dental Support Organizations, which is the largest association of dental support organizations in America and served as the founding President for the first three years.

Forsyth’s CEO, Dr Wenyuan Shi, expressed excitement over the addition of Thorne to the Board. “He is a true visionary in the oral health field and his perspective will be crucial as we continue building a strong oral health innovation ecosystem to impact public health. I am grateful that he will take the time to share his experience and expertise with us.”

Previous Collaboration Between Forsyth and PDS

Forsyth and PDS have already collaborated on several initiatives, including the inaugural Forsyth dentech meeting in 2021 and Forsyth’s annual technology innovation conference. Forsyth Board Chair Elyse Cherry said that Thorne’s leadership at PDS has helped to build awareness of the connection between oral health and overall health. “He will be an invaluable addition to the Board as Forsyth continues to grow.”

Thorne expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Forsyth Board, stating that he is “looking forward to working with the esteemed Forsyth Institute and contributing to its groundbreaking research and innovation efforts.”

This appointment is expected to add an important new voice and perspective to the Forsyth Board of Directors, and it is clear that Thorne’s experience and vision will be invaluable as Forsyth works towards a stronger and more holistic approach to oral health care.
