Philduct certified as TMDU venture

Japan: The Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU) has certified Philduct, a Japanese dental tech startup, as a “TMDU venture”.

The TMDU venture is a certification system that promotes social contribution of research results by awarding the title to venture companies that have been established by utilizing research results or human resources at TMDU.

Philduct’s Background

Philduct was founded by CEO Kaneko while studying in the master’s program at TMDU in March 2018, and has been offering a dental correction service using a transparent mouthpiece-shaped device with 3D technology called “DPEARL” since November 2019. According to Philduct, the DPEARL device provides high-quality dental correction at about half the price and time of conventional services using a new supply process utilizing an app. It also supports full jaw correction with a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan driven by data.

By providing private maintenance by dentists during regular visits, Philduct can provide feedback to patients about their progress in orthodontic treatment. Currently, Philduct has established its own clinic network by expanding “DPEARL Spot,” its affiliated clinic, to over 30 locations nationwide.

Promoting Development of Dental Technology

With the certification of the “TMDU venture” title, Philduct aims to contribute to the oral health industry by promoting activities that lead to the development of new healthcare technologies in the dental field, such as research and presentation of business models in collaboration with TMDU to contribute to society.

“The dental correction service that Philduct has been working on, which is tailored to modern lifestyles and needs, is a new era of oral healthcare that aligns with our university’s mission to realize total healthcare for the earth and humanity across generations,” said Arinobu Tojo, Director and Vice President of TMDU Integrated Innovation Organization.

“Kaneko-san, a graduate of our university, has spread the company’s business domestically and internationally, and we expect that Philduct will continue to contribute to the development of oral health innovation.”
