Qatar: The first batch of dental students from the Qatar University (QU) College of Dental Medicine (CDEM) in QU Health has commenced clinical training.
The experiential training program allows the 14 students to treat their first patients at the Hamad Dental Center, which is part of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
The introduction of clinical services in CDEM is aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 in advancing education and healthcare services to the population of Qatar.
Momentous occasion
The inaugural training program is the culmination of months of planning by experts in clinical dental education from CDEM and HMC, with support from stakeholders at QU and the Ministry of Public Health.
“This is really a momentous occasion for the college and indeed for the country,” said Prof Monty Duggal, the CDEM Dean.
“The first batch of fourth year students have now completed their pre-clinical dental training and have started providing clinical care for patients as a part of their clinical education.
“In three years, they will be fully qualified dentists who will not only enhance the dental workforce of Qatar but will be future leaders in the provision of oral care for the people.”
