Settlement Reached After Botched Dental Work

UK: Kieran Wilson, a 30-year-old from Sale in Greater Manchester, England, has come forward to share the nightmare he experienced after undergoing what he describes as “dodgy dental work.” Having been a regular at the same dental practice for years without issues, Kieran underwent various treatments, including fillings, root canal procedures, and a tooth extraction.

Unforeseen Complications and Hospitalization

In 2020, Kieran began experiencing pain and swelling in his mouth, leading to a prescription of antibiotics over the phone due to Covid restrictions. However, unbeknownst to him, a deep-rooted infection was developing. The situation escalated, and Kieran found himself rushed to the hospital with a face swollen “like a balloon” and struggling to see.

“I attended an emergency appointment at A&E and was put on an IV drip and told I needed to go to the dentist as soon as possible to get the infection treated,” he said.

“They gave me antibiotics and the swelling decreased over the next few days, but it didn’t explain why it had happened.”

In the pursuit of justice, Kieran contacted the Dental Law Partnership in 2021. A thorough analysis of his dental records revealed a series of errors in the treatments he had received. The organization claims there was a failure to diagnose and treat decay, an unsatisfactory tooth extraction, poor crown fittings, and subpar root canal treatments leading to infections.

Shocking Revelation and Ongoing Pain

Kieran expressed his shock upon discovering the extent of the issues, stating, “It was a huge shock to hear that there were so many issues that would never have been picked up on without expert help.” Despite finding a new dentist, he continues to experience occasional pains in his mouth.

The Dental Law Partnership took on Kieran’s case in 2021, and after a lengthy legal battle, the case was successfully settled in 2023. Kieran received £18,000 in an out-of-court settlement. It’s noteworthy that the dentist involved did not admit liability.

Amanda Pietrusiak, representing the Dental Law Partnership, emphasized the unnecessary distress and pain experienced by Kieran. She suggested that more thorough examinations and appropriate treatment could have prevented the ordeal.
