Dentsply Sirona announced the US launch of the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator, designed for intracanal activation of irrigating fluids used for cleaning and disinfecting root canals.
The equipment solution uses elliptical motion and increased energy for effective irrigant activation.
After shaping, ~35% or more of canal surfaces are left untouched, yet the long-term success of endodontic procedures depends on a clean canal.1
According to Dentsply Sirona, the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator is designed for multi-directional movement, is easy to use and incorporate into dental clinicians’ current root canal procedure workflow.
Marked increase in cleaning efficiency
Activating irrigants can help produce a surface with more opened dentinal tubules, allowing for better obturation of lateral and accessory canals. Citing a web-based survey, the company reports: “Following the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator protocol provides more than 38% increased cleaning efficacy versus sodium hypochlorite soak without activation.”2
Available in three sizes, the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Tips include a new medium long tip to better support longer file lengths. SmartLite Pro EndoActivator Tips, the company claims, are non-cutting medical grade plastic tips which provide no ledging, transportation, enlargement or shaping of the canal.
“SmartLite Pro EndoActivator moves fluids much more efficiently. When you´re looking through a microscope, you can literally see the difference in the cleanliness of the fluids that are coming out of the equipment,” said Dr Michael W. Nimmich, DMD, MS (US).
“It´s just loaded with debris. So if you just think of this as turning on your washing machine, it does so much more in 30 seconds than you can do just sitting there soaking.”
Irrigant activation in shaped canals
According to Dentsply Sirona, the SmartLite Pro EndoActivator is capable of effectively activating irrigants in ProTaper Ultimate, WaveOne Gold and TruNatomy shaped canals.
“Dentsply Sirona not only provides product solutions – we give endodontists unshakeable confidence,” said Greg Sheehan, Vice President Global Endodontics at Dentsply Sirona.
“From shaping, cleaning to obturation, our signature workflows provide the safety and efficiency clinicians require and expect for any successful endo procedure.”
The SmartLite Pro EndoActivator is scheduled for shipment in Q4 this year.
