A recent study published in Dental Economics has shed light on the potential benefits of robotic-assisted dental implant surgery for dental practices. Dr. Jonathan Ehlers, owner of Tiger Family Dental in Missouri, conducted an analysis of implant volumes before and after the adoption of the Yomi Robotic Dental Implant System across multiple general dentistry practices in the United States.
Impressive Growth in Implant Procedures
The study, which examined data from eleven practices over a two-year period, revealed a striking increase in implant volumes following the implementation of the Yomi system. On average, practices experienced a 137% growth in implant procedures, with the median increase being 70 implants per year. One practice in Austin, Texas, reported a remarkable 529% increase in implant placements within the first year of adopting the robotic technology.
Dr. Ehlers commented on the findings, stating, “Adopting robotic technology for dental implant placement can have a positive economic effect on the user’s practice. Using robotic technology can increase implant procedural growth and patient throughput by cultivating a modern, digital practice.”
Yomi: The Pioneer in Robotic Dental Implant Surgery
The Yomi system, developed by Neocis, is currently the only robotic system cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for dental implant surgery. It offers clinicians assistance throughout the implant procedure, from digital planning to guided surgical instrumentation, aiming to enhance accuracy and precision in implant placement.
Impact on the Dental Implant Market
Alon Mozes, co-founder and CEO of Neocis, expressed enthusiasm about the study’s results: “There is tremendous opportunity for providers to increase their share of the rapidly growing dental implant market. And our technology can help them accomplish just that. We were thrilled to see Dr. Ehler’s data, which illustrates how Yomi providers are growing their businesses while also providing state-of-the-art clinical care.”
The Future of Dental Surgery
With over 60,000 implants already placed using robotic assistance, the Yomi system represents a significant step towards the integration of advanced technology in dental practices. As the dental implant market continues to expand, robotic-assisted surgery may play an increasingly important role in helping practices meet growing demand while maintaining high standards of care.
The adoption of such technology could signal a shift in how dental practices approach implant procedures, potentially offering benefits in terms of efficiency, accuracy, and practice growth. However, as with any new technology in healthcare, long-term studies and continued monitoring will be crucial to fully understand its impact on patient outcomes and practice management.
