Ultradent Launches the Transcend Universal Shade Composite

Ultradent has unveiled a new universal composite, Transcend™, which reportedly offers high levels of translucency for achieving aesthetic restorative work.

The composite uses Ultradent’s Resin Particle Match™ technology, which according to Ultradent guarantees high translucency and optimal pigmentation and opacity for a natural look.

Less Abrasive Yet Wear-Resistant

According to a press release, Transcend’s nanohybrid formula makes it suitable for posterior and anterior restorations, and it offers good handling properties without sacrificing strength. It is less abrasive yet highly wear-resistant, maintaining a delicate balance in its properties.

Transcend composite requires only one Universal Body shade and eliminates the need for a blocker or opaquer for hiding underlying tooth color, thereby simplifying inventory control and increasing productivity, says the manufacturer.

Additional Shades for Layering

Transcend composite comes with four dentin shades and two enamel shades, suitable for cases that require layering.

Dr Jaleena Fischer Jessop, VP of Clinical Affairs, a user of Transcend composite, commented, “I have been amazed at the beautiful case outcomes with just a single shade. I like having the simple 6 additional shade offerings for those cases where layering may be able to improve the result. With the Universal Body shade plus the dentin and enamel shades, I can cover about 90 percent of my cases.”

Stain Resistant

The composite’s shade can adapt to match the optical properties of the surrounding dentition during a whitening treatment, eliminating the need for new composite restorations after whitening.

In a test performed by Ultradent, the tooth restored with Transcend composite was exposed to 10% carbamide peroxide whitening gel for a total of 8 hours over three consecutive days. After the treatment, the composite’s shade remained unaffected, and it maintained its initial glossy texture. It is also resistant to staining from common beverages, including coffee, tea, and red wine.
