Unauthorized Dental Practitioners Arrested in Malaysia for Providing Illegal Services

Malaysia: In a coordinated effort by the Private Medical Practice Control Section and Malaysian law enforcement, a group of individuals engaged in illicit dental and cosmetic medical services has been apprehended. The arrests took place on the 9th of June, during the “Ops Gempur Johor” raid and spanned several regions including Johor, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Malacca.

Operating Illegally and Overcharging

The investigation revealed that these unauthorized practitioners had purchased dental equipment from an online platform and operated under the guise of professional dentists and beauticians. The authorities identified two locations connected to luxury beauty centers where these unlawful activities were taking place.

It was discovered that the suspects were providing dental services beyond their authorized scope, including teeth cleaning and fillings, while charging exorbitant fees for their services. During questioning, the female suspect at the first location admitted to providing both illegal dental and cosmetic services.

However, the male suspect at the second location only acknowledged offering dental services, denying any involvement in cosmetic treatments. Notably, authorities discovered incriminating tools and evidence supporting the provision of cosmetic procedures.

Residential House Transformed into Illicit Dental Clinic

Another significant find in the operation was the identification of a residential house converted into an unauthorized dental clinic. This location became the hub for various procedures such as the installation of braces, dental drilling, and veneer placement.

Although the dental and cosmetic services provided by these individuals resembled those offered by licensed dentists, they were solely authorized to offer basic beauty and spa services.

If convicted, the suspects could face fines up to RM$300,000 (US$65k), imprisonment for up to 6 years, or both. As investigations continue, it remains crucial for the public to seek dental and cosmetic services exclusively from licensed practitioners to ensure their safety and the quality of care received.
