University of Jordan President Proposes 250-Bed Hospital Project

President Nathir Obeidat Seeks Support for Critical Medical Facility in Amman

JORDAN: University of Jordan President Nathir Obeidat has urged backing for a significant project – the establishment of a 250-bed hospital dedicated to emergency and critical cases requiring urgent medical attention. The proposed facility aims to serve the entire capital, Amman.

Budget Increase and Dental Treatment Building

During a visit by the Health and Food Committee in the House of Representatives, President Obeidat highlighted the project’s importance. He stated that the hospital’s budget for this year has reached JD 120 million, signifying a notable increase from the previous year by JD 76 million.

Additionally, he unveiled plans for a new 5-story dental treatment building equipped with 250 dental chairs. Two floors of this building, spanning 8,000 square meters, are earmarked for advanced medical centers, focusing on specialized surgeries and cardiac catheterization.

The committee, chaired by Mohammad Al-Khalaileh, and including members Ahmed Asha, Marwa Al-Saoub, Rima Al-Amoush, MP Mayada Shreim, and Hayel Ayyash, inaugurated an 8-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during their visit. This unit was established with the support of USAID. They also toured the newly rehabilitated ninth floor, now serving as a modern residence for resident doctors with 90 rooms.

Addressing Hospital Challenges and Future Plans

Discussions during the visit delved into various issues faced by hospital visitors, including parking and appointment spacing. President Obeidat stressed the need for special policies to alleviate pressure on the hospital, expand facilities, and increase revenues. Despite challenges, President Obeidat affirmed the hospital’s readiness to receive casualties from Gaza, showcasing the University of Jordan’s commitment to supporting and assisting Palestinians.

General Manager Nader Al-Bsoul provided an overview of the hospital, emphasizing its global medical academic center status. Al-Bsoul shared statistics indicating the hospital’s extensive workload, with over 650,000 annual visitors to medical clinics, nearly 100,000 visitors to the emergency department, and its contributions to major surgical operations and medical tourism. The hospital remains committed to enhancing services and maintaining high-quality healthcare standards.

Committee’s Positive Outlook

Committee Chairman Mohammad Al-Khalaileh expressed admiration for the proposed hospital project and commended the advanced medical services provided by the University of Jordan Hospital. President Obeidat expressed satisfaction with the committee’s interest in understanding the services, challenges, and needs of the citizens.

This project signals a significant step toward enhancing emergency medical services in Amman, underscoring the University of Jordan’s commitment to healthcare excellence.
