INDIA: The Yenepoya Dental College has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smilo Health Private Limited Australia. The collaboration aims to foster coordination in the realm of artificial intelligence (AI) within dental education.
Key Signatories and Objectives
The MoU was formally signed by key representatives, including Dr. Laxmikanth Chatra, Principal of Yenepoya Dental College, Dr. Sham S Bhat, Dean Faculty of Dentistry, Vice Principal Dr. Hasan Sarfaraz, and Dr. Imran Pasha M, Coordinator of Yenepoya Dental Education Unit. Dr. Vidya Bhat, Professor of Prosthodontics, was also present during the signing ceremony. Dr. Chatra highlighted the collaborative aspect, stating, “MOU will allow for a joint venture into co-developing AI-based technologies in dentistry.”
The partnership is set to introduce cutting-edge AI-based technologies, with a particular focus on Smilo.ai, touted as the world’s first instant AI-based dental checkup and smile design. This technology will be seamlessly integrated into the college’s website and app. Dr. Vidya Bhat emphasized the pioneering nature of this initiative in India, stating, “Virtual checkup will enable patient awareness about their oral health.”

Following the MOU signing, the Yenepoya University Alumni Association – Public Health Dentistry Chapter and Yenepoya Dental Education Unit organized the Yentoaspire Talk. Dr. Padma Gadiyar, an alumnus of the 2001 BDS batch, delivered a talk on artificial intelligence. The event provided a platform to delve into the role of AI in dentistry and its potential impact on patient care.
Dr. Imran Pasha M, Coordinator of Yenepoya Dental Education Unit, delivered the welcome address, setting the stage for the enlightening discussion on AI in dentistry.
