Align Technology Launches Invisalign Smile Architect, a Facially Driven Ortho-Restorative Treatment Planning Software

Align Technology, a clear aligner technology company, has introduced Invisalign Smile Architect, a new ortho-restorative treatment planning software that enables general dentists to integrate clear aligner therapy into their comprehensive treatment plans.

The software combines teeth alignment and restorative planning in a single platform, providing flexibility and real-time treatment planning capabilities for improved patient outcomes. On 22 February, Align welcomed dentists from across Europe at the Invisalign Smile Architect online launch event, which provided a full overview of the new solution.

Growing Opportunity for General Dentists

Ortho-restorative treatment represents a growing opportunity for general dentists, as it provides them with a single ecosystem for combined visual orthodontic treatment planning plus restorative dental care. Integrating tooth movement as part of restorative treatments can deliver healthier and longer-lasting outcomes. In fact, data from Align Technology shows that 45% of all prosthodontic procedures could benefit from pre-treatment alignment, based on a survey of current dental practitioners in the USA.

A Comprehensive Approach to Treatment Planning

Invisalign Smile Architect incorporates facially driven and ortho-restorative treatment planning within the ClinCheck 3D software platform, allowing dentists to design an end-to-end approach for their patients. According to a press release, the software offers minimally invasive treatment plans that preserve the healthy, natural structure of the tooth.

With the ClinCheck In-Face Visualization tool, dentists receive a facial rendering that they can use for treatment planning and help patients visualize their smile after both Invisalign treatment and restorative dental treatment. The software includes several new features, such as restorative specific 3D modifications, a multi-layer visualization for ortho and restorative, real-time treatment planning, and tooth mass analysis.

According to Dr Kristina Baumgarten from Germany, who has experience with Invisalign Smile Architect as part of the Invisalign Go portfolio, “The new software provides dentists with greater flexibility and consistency of treatment preferences, allowing us to plan the case with the end treatment goal in mind, in harmony with the patient’s face. This can result in excellent outcomes while preserving healthy tooth structure.”

Transforming Digital Treatment Planning

The introduction of Invisalign Smile Architect is expected to transform digital treatment planning for dentists, providing them with greater flexibility, consistency of treatment preferences, and real-time treatment plan access and modification capabilities. This enables dentists to plan the case with the end treatment goal in mind, in harmony with the patient’s face, and achieve excellent outcomes while preserving healthy tooth structure.
