Govt Considers Tax Exemption on Dental Equipment Purchase for Private Dentists

Malaysia: This announcement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof during the launch of the National Dental Health Policy and the celebration of World Oral Health Day in Kuala Lumpur.

Request to be Forwarded to the Ministry of Finance

Fadillah said that he will forward the MOH’s request to the Ministry of Finance for a careful study to be done. He also added that if the import duty for dental equipment is reduced, it will surely help private dental practitioners from the aspect of costs to purchase expensive equipment.

“Insya-Allah, I will bring this matter to the MOF to determine how we can support (private) dental clinics as they need to buy expensive equipment.

“If the import duty (for dental equipment) is reduced, this will surely help (private dental practitioners) from the aspect of costs (to purchase equipment),“ he Fadillah reporters after officiating the World Oral Health Day 2023 and launch of the National Dental Health Policy.

He made this statement in response to Deputy Health Minister Lukanisman Awang Sauni’s request that the government should give tax exemptions on the purchase of dental equipment to private dental practitioners operating clinics in suburban and rural areas.

Strategic Coordination Effort

The National Dental Health Policy is a strategic coordination effort that will place the delivery of dental health services on a better track by bringing together all stakeholders. The policy includes three main principles – to emphasise efforts to promote universal health coverage, integrate dental health with general health, and improve the safety and quality of dental health.

The tax exemption, if approved, is expected to ease the financial burden of private dental practitioners, especially those operating in suburban and rural areas. This move by the government will ensure the sustainability of the private dental sector and enable them to provide quality dental services to their patients.
