Malaysians now able to Schedule Dental Appointments on MySejahtera

Malaysia: The Malaysian public can now schedule dental appointments at government health clinics through the MySejahtera application, according to an announcement by Dr Radzi Abu Hassan, the health director-general.

This new feature enables users to book their appointments for check-ups, consultations, or treatments via the outpatient services and receive appointment reminders.

Emergency dental cases, on the other hand, can seek immediate assistance at nearby dental clinics without the need for prior booking. Dr Radzi highlighted that this new feature has the potential to enhance the efficiency of oral health services while promoting self-care and screening for early detection and prevention.

Addressing the Need for Regular Dental Check-ups

Dr Radzi referred to the 2019 National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS 2019), which revealed concerning statistics regarding dental check-ups in Malaysia. The survey found that 15% of Malaysians have never undergone a dental check-up in their lifetime. Additionally, only 50% of Malaysians received a dental check-up within the previous two years.

“This is worrying as the incidence of gum disease and dental cavities among adults is still high, at 90% and 89% respectively, according to the 2010 National Oral Health Survey of Adults,” said Dr Radzi.

Dr Radzi’s statement reflects the importance of leveraging technology to improve access to dental services and increase awareness about oral health. By integrating dental appointments into the MySejahtera application, individuals are provided with a platform where they can proactively manage their oral healthcare needs.

The inclusion of dental services within the MySejahtera application is expected to streamline the process of scheduling appointments, enhance efficiency, and ultimately contribute to the overall improvement of oral health in Malaysia.
