President Vo Van Thuong Commends Dental Advances at VIDEC 2023

VIETNAM: Hanoi played host to an impressive gathering of Vietnamese and foreign professors, scientists, and experts attending the Vietnam International Dental Exhibition & Congress 2023 (VIDEC 2023). President Vo Van Thuong met with these esteemed individuals to discuss the remarkable strides made in the field of odonto-stomatology.

President Vo underscored the pivotal role of scientific research, technological innovation, and advancements in the medical sector, particularly in odonto-stomatology. These achievements have catapulted Vietnam’s healthcare system onto the global stage, offering not only economic benefits but also profound social impacts across various domains.

Commitment to Healthcare and Sustainable Development

The President reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Vietnam’s Party and State to safeguarding, nurturing, and enhancing the health of its citizens. He emphasised that healthcare is a collective obligation and responsibility shared by every citizen, the entire political system, and society as a whole. 

Vietnam’s healthcare achievements have earned recognition from the United Nations, particularly in implementing Millennium Development Goals in healthcare in 2015, and the nation remains dedicated to meeting Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

President Thuong expressed his admiration for the remarkable progress within Vietnam’s dental sector, lauding numerous hospitals for successfully implementing advanced and contemporary specialised techniques, placing them on par with regional and global standards. 

He noted that Vietnam has become a sought-after destination for dental treatment and examinations, attracting tens of thousands of international visitors annually.

The President extended his hope for increased collaboration between international scientists, the Asia Pacific Dental Federation, the World Dental Federation, and odonto-stomatology associations from various countries. Such partnerships are expected to further enrich Vietnam’s dental landscape.

VIDEC 2023: A Global Gathering

Associate Professor Dr Tran Cao Binh, Director of the National Odonto-Stomatology Hospital and Chairman of the Vietnam Odonto-Stomatology Association, highlighted the international significance of VIDEC 2023. The event, taking place from August 17-19, has drawn thousands of delegates from 23 countries and territories, showcasing Vietnam’s growing influence in the field.

Dr Wong Chi-wai Nelson, Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Dental Federation and Chairman of the Hong Kong Dental Association (China), expressed congratulations to Vietnam for hosting VIDEC 2023. He pledged to engage more actively with Vietnamese research and training institutions in odonto-stomatology in the near future.

Dr Lawrence Yong, President of the Singapore Dental Association, who has been involved in training many Vietnamese dentists, highlighted the passion and dedication of young Vietnamese dental professionals, recognising their significant contributions to the field.

VIDEC 2023 serves as a testament to Vietnam’s dedication to advancing dental healthcare and fostering international collaboration in odonto-stomatology.
