The IADR Announces 2023 Innovation in Oral Care Award Winners

The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) has revealed the winners of the 2023 IADR Innovation in Oral Care Awards. The recipients were acknowledged during the Opening Ceremonies of the 101st General Session of the IADR. This event was held concurrently with the 9th Meeting of the Latin American Region and the 12th World Congress on Preventive Dentistry on June 21, 2023, in Bogotá, Colombia.

Distinguished with a grant-funded prize of US$50,000 each, the winners were selected for their remarkable contributions to the field of dental research. The generous grant is made possible by an unrestricted funding commitment from Haleon and is administered by the IADR.

2023 Winners

Kassapa Ellepola – University of Illinois at Chicago, USA

Ellepola’s pioneering research project focuses on “Replenishing Biochemical Functionality in Xerostomia Patients with a Catalytic Nanoceria Formulation.” Dr Ellepola and his advisor, Prof Russell Pesavento, were awarded for their contribution in developing a new nano compound.

Zhou Ye – The University of Hong Kong, SAR, China

Zhou Ye’s work centers around the development of an “Anti-caries Tooth Spray with Self-assembling Peptides.” By harnessing the power of self-assembling peptides, Ye aims to revolutionize oral care by providing a novel approach to combat tooth decay and promote oral health.

Celebrating its 20th year of award support, Haleon has contributed over US$4 million to the IADR Innovation in Oral Care Awards program.
