Malaysia: The Alawa Dental Clinic, located at the Universiti Malaysia Sabah Hospital (HUMS), has been upgraded and is now ready to serve the public.
The dental clinic was developed as one of HUMS’ projects under the allocation of the Higher Education Ministry. Previously, dental treatment at the UMS Resident Treatment Center (PRW) was limited to basic procedures such as tooth extraction and scaling, offered only to UMS staff and students due to the lack of complete facilities and narrow space.
Increased Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Values
The new clinic boasts more sophisticated facilities and a wider room, allowing for expanded use to the public. This expansion aims to raise the value of corporate social responsibility and human values, offering dental services to all groups regardless of age, race, religion, staff or non-staff of UMS. The clinic was recently officiated by UMS Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Kasim Mansor.
Helen Benedict Lasimbang, the Director of HUMS, informed that the clinic currently has three surgery rooms equipped with comfortable dental chairs, and HUMS will add two more dental chairs to the five surgery rooms to treat more patients simultaneously.
A dental laboratory was also developed to provide services for making flexible or acrylic false teeth, sports mouthguards or nightguards, and Removable Orthodontic Appliances.
Additionally, dental X-ray services such as OPG, Lateral Cephalogram, and IOPA are provided at a reasonable price.
HUMS to Benefit All Parties
Dr Kasim Mansor hoped that the clinic would be able to provide benefits to all parties, and that the quality of the services provided would continue to improve. With the variety of health services offered and provided at HUMS, it is hoped that the establishment will be able to accommodate current needs and demands.
Present at the event were Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof Ir. Dr Rosalam Sarbatly; UMS treasurer Badrul Hisham Ismail; UMS chief librarian Md Sazali Md Pious; and UMS legal advisor Awang Suhaizam Bongsu.
