Yangcheon-gu Launches Child and Adolescent Dentist Business to Provide Preventive Oral Care Services

Korea: Lee Gi-jae, the head of Yangcheon-gu district, has announced the launch of the “child and adolescent dentist business,” a program that will offer prevention-oriented oral care services to 1,400 elementary school students and underprivileged children and adolescents starting next month.

The project is a collaborative effort between the Yangcheon Public Health Center, Yangcheon-gu Dental Association, and private organisations, operating through a local community network. It aims to move away from traditional examinations and establish a preventive-oriented and continuous oral health management system.

Comprehensive Dental Services Provided by Local Dental Clinics

As part of the project, 31 local dental clinics will provide a range of services for children and adolescents, including oral examinations, oral health education, and preventive care such as fluoride application, tooth filling, and tartar removal.

The initial phase of the “Student Dentist Project” will focus on 890 students from seven elementary schools within the jurisdiction. These students were selected through prior applications from the Office of Education. The primary target group is fourth-grade elementary school students, as they are reaching the completion of their permanent dentition. The program aims to gradually expand its reach to more students in the future.

Registration Process and Free Examination Fee

Participating students can benefit from free oral examinations. To avail themselves of the services, they are required to sign up for the “Dentii” app, fill out a questionnaire in advance, complete online oral health education, and then make a reservation at a designated medical institution to receive preventive treatment.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, emphasized the importance of forming lifelong oral health habits and the significance of systematic and regular oral health education and appropriate preventive treatment from childhood. He stated, “I will support you” and expressed his commitment to promoting oral health in the community.

The child and adolescent dentist business in Yangcheon-gu demonstrates a proactive approach to dental care, emphasizing prevention and providing accessible services to ensure the oral health and well-being of young individuals.
